There are people in the world who call themselves surfers. Many of those people seek out the perfect wave. Many of the same people claim that you will never find a more perfect wave then on the North Shore of Oahu.
The winter of the Hawaiian Islands provide the North Shore of Oahu with some of the best waves for surfing than anywhere else in the world. The summer time provide a calmer more gentle Pacific Ocean and surf so that the more leisurely activities like paddleboarding and snorkeling can be enjoyed.
This all adds up to a truly magical location and the North Shore of Oahu is another place that is a must visit on your Hawaiian holiday.
The North Shore of Oahu stretches more than 7 miles and in the winter is home to premiere surfing competitions. Surfers from all over the world visit Hawaii to compete at places like Waimea Bay and the world famous Banzai Pipeline.
There is much more to the North Shore than just riding waves in the winter, though. There are numerous vacation home and condo rentals, along with Turtle Bay Resort, if you wanted to make the North Shore your Hawaiian holiday headquarters.
Other Things to Do on the North Shore
Snorkelling with a visit to Sharks Cove, just a minute walk from Waimea Bay, is one of the best (if not the best) turtle sighting opportunities and scuba spots on all of the Hawaiian Islands
Waimea Valley provides a short walk through botanical gardens, Hawaiian ruins and ending at beautiful Waimea Falls. Turtle Bay Resort and Kawela Bay are two great watering and swimming spots. There is also a small snorkeling spot for kids near Turtle Bay called Kuilima Cove.
The historic town of Haleiwa and the Dole Pineapple Plantation also call the North Shore of Oahu home and provide plenty of shopping and sightseeing. You have to visit the Dole Plantation for a Pineapple whip and a train tour through the grounds! While Haleiwa is a nice stroll with plenty of souvenir shopping and shrimp trucks.
The North Shore of Oahu can provide plenty to do. There are activities and beaches everywhere, as well as some great hikes and shopping. Do not miss out during your Hawaiian holiday.
